About Us

U3A is a worldwide organisation that grew from a legislative change in France in 1972 – universite du troisieme age  (UDA). U3A is not a college building but simply a gathering of people.  NZ law does not allow us to use University in our title and you do not have to attended University to join us.  All you need is an open enquiring mind and a spirit of curiosity.

The U3A motto is learn, laugh, live; that is learning for pleasure.

For a small joining fee, our members have access to a diverse variety of study groups and are invited to our monthly general meeting.

The general meeting takes place at 10:00 am on the 2nd Monday of each month at St Chad’s, 38 St John’s Road, Meadowbank.

The agenda for each meeting is:

    • Guest speaker  followed by Q & A
    • Morning tea
    • A short presentation from one of the study groups
    • General updates

Details on our next meeting and guest speaker can be found here.
